The Prasanthi Mandir is a prayer-hall where daily bhajans and meditation are kept. The building was finished in 1949 and it lies in the centre of Prasanthi Nilayam. On November 23, 1950 it was inaugurated by Sai Baba. The mandir has a height of 7500 feet and it contains in the centre a silver statue of Sathya Sai Baba. The building has a length of 220 m and is wide 150 m.. Every day the darshan takes play here.

Referring to this ‘imposing’ description, the following must be added:

Nowadays an unpleasant atmosphere prevails in the ashram. After the murderous assault on Sai Baba, visitors have to pass small gates (metallic detectors) for checking possible possession of arms.

The Prasanthi Mandir, which is at the same time Sai Baba’s place of residence, is guarded by body-guards during 24 hours every day!

Moreover a special unit of guards strictly sees that nobody enters or leaves the ashram after nine o’clock in the evening.
